About the asset

The Piper B platform is located in UKCS Block 15/17 and is approximately 120 miles north east of Aberdeen. Our client Repsol now operates the platform which has been in situ since 1992.

Katoni’s role in supporting Repsol

We supported Repsol on this asset in 2018 and this commission was to identify the root cause of a noise and vibration issue associated with a water injection bypass valve during start-up.

Collaboration in action

Understanding the Repsol’s needs - The commission required a creative solution which Repsol required within a limited budget that could create an economically optimal outcome.

Delivery – We undertook root cause analysis and identified an incorrect valve type had been installed. At this stage we undertook options appraisal, selected and developed the preferred option. Through our full EPC offering we undertook vendor liaison including RFQ development and vendor proposal review and finally produced the recommended EPC solution.

The Katoni Way – To meet the aim of addressing the failure we created a low-cost solution to install a multi-stage globe valve with pressure let down capabilities to ensure safe and controlled pressure equalisation during start-up. Our solution also included multidiscipline input from our piping and structural teams.

Project delivered on time and on budget
