This is Bailey, our Marketing and Communications Executive.
And this is the sign he designed for our new Westhill office.
We thought this was post worthy, because we love it. When we spoke to him and asked about the idea for the sign, Bailey told us:
"When James said we needed some signage for the new Westhill office, I knew I had a good opportunity to do something different or bold here. My original idea involved spray paint style font and a graffiti-style score-through, and while it was definitely bold, I'm not sure how well that would've sat with our new neighbours in the office. It was cool, I sent it to a few people around the office and a good few were keen for it, but in the end we dialled it back slightly to find a happy medium - the point still stands though."
He added:
"I wanted the sign to feel like more than just a direction - like someone came along, struck through the standard 'Katoni this way' and wrote their own message underneath. It’s almost like a small act of rebellion, a subtle rejection of the mundane. Maybe that's a bit far fetched, but it sets a tone before you even walk through the door - giving you a glimpse of who we are: not standard, not sterile, but different. It’s less about guiding someone to the office and more about making a statement on the way there. Ross from Recreate was so helpful and played a big part in bringing the idea to life. Big kudos to them. They smashed it"
Bailey’s been around a while. He first came to Katoni back in 2019 for a school work experience week - when we had a team of about 30 people. A few years later, during the summer between his 3rd and 4th year at university down in Edinburgh, he came back for a marketing internship.
He impressed. We saw the signs that he was a creative, bright young man and decided to sign him on a full-time role (double sign pun oh yeah 😎). And now, six years after that first week, he’s still here – representing the company.
If anyone knows what The Katoni Way looks like, Bailey is one of them. Reflecting on his internship in 2023, Bailey said:
“What really caught me off guard was how many familiar faces were still around. I think that speaks for itself - people stay because Katoni’s genuinely a great place to be.”
We don’t do posters with “values” printed on them.
We just do The Katoni Way. Being human. Being real. Doing what we say we’ll do and doing it well.
